Nigerian troops of Super Camp 3 and the 231 Battalion were ambushed on Friday, September 6 in Damaturu, Yobe state by Boko Haram insurgents who stole 15 million naira and a cache of weapons.
According to The Guardian, military sources also disclosed that the insurgents carted away a gun truck.
Legit gathers that the attack occurred around the Azare-Kamuya axis of Yobe.
A source reportedly disclosed that the N15,492,000 stolen was meant for the troop’s ration cash allowance on the frontlines.
The attack was carried out on the same day a new video was released by Abubakar Shekau, Boko Haram’s factional leader, reiterating his intention to continue the insurgency.
According to an analyst at the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change, Audu Bukarti, the “video is intended to recruit fighters, funders and sympathizers.”
He added: “It demonstrates that Shekau is alive and that he’s committed to his group’s ideology as always.”
Though the federal government keeps insisting that the terrorist group has been degraded, the persistent attacks suggest otherwise.
Meanwhile, Legit previously reported that the Nigerian Army, on Sunday, September 8, announced that it successfully cleared the Gworege village in Dikwa local government area, Borno state of Boko Haram terrorists.
In a statement issued by Colonel Sagir Musa, acting spokesperson of the Army, the successful raid followed credible information from the locals about their presence.
The statement said troops of the 22 Brigade/Super Camp Dikwa, in conjunction with the Civilian Joint Task Force (C-JTF), local vigilantes and hunters, conducted the successful raid and clearance operation.
